Red Bay is the site of one of the earliest industrial complexes in the New World where archaeologists have discovered the remains of a 16th Century Basque whaling station and several shipwrecks. The Red Bay Historical Site provides an opportunity to see many of the recovered artifacts and provides some insight into the European habitation of this rugged coast during the 16th and 17th Centuries.
